This is a rare sabre of a Grenadier a Cheval de la Garde Imperiale.
The Grenadiers a Cheval were the senior French cavalry regiment and formed
a constituent part of the Garde Imperiale and hence Napoleons bodyguard.
The brass half basket hilt incorporating a flaming grenade, wooden grip with leather wrapped
and multiple brass wire bounds over it, lightly curved single edged blade marked
"Klingenthal Coulaux Frères", in brass scabbard with with two leather inserts on either side of the scabbard.

Rare French M.1814 "Garde Du Corps" Restoration sword. Blade bearing
the mention "Gardes Du Corps Du Roi" in between two Fleur de Lis and
over an arm panoply on one side and sunburst, arms of France and an
other arm panoply on the other. Back of the blade very well marked "Munuf.
re Ro.le De Klingenthal Septembre 1814". Superb gilded brass hilt
bearing the arms of France and very well stamped of the Versailles (Boutet)
manufacture over "B" and "C" inspector marks. Leather wrapped wooden
grip with multiple brass wiring over it. Leather scabbard with brass
mountings. A rare sword worn by one of Louis the 18th Body Guard.
